S.Salins college of Optometry, Bidar established Dr. Sybil Salins in the memory of her mother Dr. Mrs. Susheela Salins in the year 2014-15. Dr. Sybil Salins realized that there are no optometry colleges in the northern part of Karnataka and especially in Bidar district. So she has taken a challenge to open an optometry college to educate students in the Bidar district. S.Salins College of Optometry is running by the Velemegna Good News Society Hospital, Bidar. Here we are offering B.Sc Optometry course since 2014-15. Our college is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore.

“Optometry is a health care profession which involves examining the eyes and applicable visual systems for defects or abnormalities as well as the medical diagnosis and management of eye disease” (WHO).
The name “Optometry” comes from the Greek words opsis that means “view” & metron that means “something used to measure”. The historical backdrop of optometry can be followed back to the earlier studies on the optics and image formation by the eye. The term optometry appeared in book “A Treatise on the Eye: The Manner and Phenomena of Vision” that was written by Scottish physician William Porterfield in 1759. Optometry is a satisfying career in medical courses in various ways. It is a dynamic and challenging career that offers self-awareness, work flexibility, community respect, money related achievement & unlimited opportunities. A career in optometry offers a high salary, job stability, tremendous potential for development and a decent work environment.
